Hockey Alberta released their Return to Hockey Plan on Tuesday June 30. "The province remains in a restricted state, and the primary concern for Hockey Alberta is that any programs offered as part of its Return to Play plan focus on the health and safety of all participants. The intent is not to re-create the regular season structure, but to offer local/ regional training and development opportunities before proceeding to the regular season. Safety, not competition, is paramount."
Hockey Alberta has identified three components to returning to play:
- Off-season skill development: June 1st- August 31st
- Development season: TBD (no earlier than August 1)
- Regular season: TBD
The Return to Hockey Plan can be found on the Hockey Alberta website. https://www.hockeyalberta.ca/
St. Matthew Hockey is currently reviewing the guidelines and awaiting further instruction from Hockey Edmonton and KC Hockey.
We thank everyone who has already registered for the new season. It certainly helps us at this stage of planning, to have an idea of what our numbers are. You are still able to register and defer payment at this time. Please select "Pay Offline" at checkout to take advantage of this offer.
For those members that wish to pay now, the "Pay Online" feature has been enabled. If you wish to pay in 3 installments, you can contact the Registrar to set up a payment plan for July 15, August 15 and September 15. In a normal season, all fees would need to be paid by September 15, however, we do realize that at the moment there are still a lot of unknowns. Please note that if you do decide to pay now and the season is altered in any way (prior to stepping on the ice), you will receive a full refund if you wish to cancel your registration.

Financial Assistance for Families
KidSport can help overcome the financial obstacles that prevent some young people from playing sports.
Covid 19 update from their website:
With the ever-evolving COVID-19 situation causing uncertainty for all Canadian citizens throughout the country, KidSport is committed to assisting families as best we can during these unprecedented times. Provincial/Local KidSport Chapters may still be accepting and reviewing submitted applications at this time, however, with the uncertainty around the commencement and resumption of spring/summer sports leagues and how long those sport seasons will be, KidSport may not be issuing cheques to sport clubs on behalf of families until sport resumes. In the meantime, we encourage all children to find ways to keep working on your sport skills and physical fitness at home so that you will be ready to hit the playing field when sport returns. As specific measures may vary by Province/Territory, please contact your provincial/territorial KidSport Chapter for more information.
